soul purpose

Be a force of nature, not a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy. ~ George Bernard Shaw

Gosh, Mr. Shaw sure as hell didn’t hold back when lamenting on our purpose here on Earth. Brutal? Perhaps. But spot-on. So, why are you here? What drives you? What lights you up?

discovering your why

Your why goes beyond the daily grind, the have-tos and to-do lists. It shapes everything: our relationships, our careers, where we live, and how we spend our time. When you don’t have a purpose, life feels like running on a hamster wheel - lots of hustle, no horizon. Purpose is the lighthouse. It’s what gets you out of bed when your soul feels heavy and the world feels indifferent. It’s what makes you fight through the bad days and revel in the good ones. It’s your ripple effect on the world. When you know your purpose, you don’t just live - you thrive.

Your purpose isn’t hiding in your friend’s opinion or your partner’s expectations. It’s yours. Find what ignites a fire in your belly - not what looks good on paper, what your parents expect, or sounds cool at parties. It could be conservation, creating, cooking, fitness, learning a language, building something with your hands. If it makes you feel alive, that’s your sign. If it makes you feel part of something bigger, that’s your purpose.

But here’s the thing: you can’t just think your way into it. You have to move. Nike was right with Just Do It. Procrastination and overthinking are just ego tricks to keep you comfortable and small. So, take the first step, even if it’s wobbly. Even if you’re not sure. Resistance is just proof that you’re moving in the right direction.

soul purpose questions

Do you really know what makes you come alive?

Do you know what your innate strengths are? What others find difficult, and you don't?

Where do you add the greatest value?

How will you measure your life? How would you like to be remembered?

    breakdowns lead to breakthroughs

Every cell in your body is changing every second. So why hang onto old stories that don’t serve you anymore? Why drag around perceptions that are outdated and holding you back? Let it go. Take a page out of Elsa’s book and freeze out the past - Let it go! That tension? That mental clutter? It’s dead weight. Release it and make space for the real you.

The truth? You’re going to hit walls. You’ll break down. You might lose your way. That’s the point. Every crack lets the light in. Every stumble sharpens your stride. I remember reading The Celestine Prophecy by James Redfield at 21, and it changed everything. I still buy copies and hand them out like candy. There’s a line that says it all: “We humans have always sought to increase our personal energy in the only manner we have known—by seeking to psychologically steal it from others. An unconscious competition that underlies all human conflict.” Surround yourself with people who lift you higher, and be aware of energy vampires.

seeing the gold in the grit

The Buddhists have it right with their proverb: “The lotus flower blooms most beautifully from the deepest and thickest mud.” That’s creative gratitude. Finding appreciation in the ugly, the painful, the gut-wrenching. It’s realising that the playground bullies, the toxic office culture, and the passive-aggressive keyboard warriors are all just grit that polishes the gem. It’s shifting perception from “Why me?” to “Watch me.”

Sometimes, practicing creative gratitude means lightening the hell up. Not taking ourselves too seriously. Missed out on your dream job? Good. Maybe you get to spend more time with your kids, your dog, or just yourself. Didn’t get the house you wanted? Maybe you dodged a money pit and found freedom instead. The silver linings are always there - you just need the clarity to look for them.

clarity of body, clarity of mind, clarity of soul

Here's the thing: you can’t get clear on your purpose when you’re filled to the brim with garbage - physically, mentally, emotionally. If you’re knocking back triple-shot lattes to survive or relying on prescription meds to cope, your intuition is probably gasping for air. As I wrote in Aussie Body Diet, even major religions have ritualistic fasting and purification: Yom Kippur, Ramadan, Lent. In 21st-century speak? We cleanse the body to clear the mind. Get rid of the junk and you’ll hear your intuition loud and clear.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow! What a Ride!” ~ Hunter S. Thompson
